Ingredients

Apple Rum Dum

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¼ cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp soda
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup nuts
  • 2 cups chopped apples

Caramel Sauce

  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup light cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • ¼ cup butter

Instructions

Apple Rum Dum

  • Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg, then dry ingredients.
  • Blend in nuts and apples.
  • Bake in 9-inch square pan at 350° for 40-45 minutes.
  • Cut into squares and serve with caramel sauce.

Caramel Sauce

  • Combine in saucepan. Bring to boil for 2 minutes (or longer).
  • Serve hot.
