Danish Kringle
Ingredients
- 4 cups flour
- 1 cup lard
- 1 cup milk
- 3 tbsp sugar
- pinch of salt
- 3 beaten egg yolks
- 1 pkg yeast soak in ¼ cup water with 1 tsp sugar
Instructions
- Mix together flour and lard as for pie crust.
- Scald milk.
- Cool milk; add sugar, salt, egg yolks and yeast. Pour over flour mixture and mix well.
- Chill overnight.
- Divide dough into 4 parts. Roll each part very thin.
- Beat 3 egg whites and divide 4 ways.
- Spread each part of rolled dough with Crisco, beaten egg white, brown sugar and ground walnuts.
- Fold 1 side over a third; then the other side over on top so there are 3 layers.
- Pinch ends securely. Let rise for 2 hours and bake at 350° for 20 minutes.
- Spread with powdered sugar frosting.
