Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 cup lard
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 3 beaten egg yolks
  • 1 pkg yeast soak in ¼ cup water with 1 tsp sugar

Instructions

  • Mix together flour and lard as for pie crust.
  • Scald milk.
  • Cool milk; add sugar, salt, egg yolks and yeast. Pour over flour mixture and mix well.
  • Chill overnight.
  • Divide dough into 4 parts. Roll each part very thin.
  • Beat 3 egg whites and divide 4 ways.
  • Spread each part of rolled dough with Crisco, beaten egg white, brown sugar and ground walnuts.
  • Fold 1 side over a third; then the other side over on top so there are 3 layers.
  • Pinch ends securely. Let rise for 2 hours and bake at 350° for 20 minutes.
  • Spread with powdered sugar frosting.
