Ingredients

  • ½ cup scalded milk
  • 2 tbsp shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 pkg yeast
  • ¼ cup warm water not hot
  • 2 egg yolks or 1 egg
  • cups flour
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon

Instructions

  • Mix together with the milk; shortening, ¼ cup sugar, and salt, cool to lukewarm.
  • Soften yeast in water, add to milk mixture, and stir in egg.
  • Add flour all at once, the dough will be real stiff and should be worked until smooth.
  • Turn unto a floured board for about 10 minutes.
  • Mix together 1¾ cups sugar with cinnamon.
  • Roll dough into a rectangle, brush with melted butter, sprinkle on sugar mixture, roll and seal edges.
  • Cut into slices 1 inch thick, work with one slice at a time, put generous amounts of sugar mixture on board and roll until flat and 5-6 inches in diameter.
  • Let rise 30 minutes, Bake at 300° for 15-18 minutes.
