Frozen Spiced Crab Apples
Ingredients
- 16 small ripe crab apples
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 6 cloves whole
- ½ cup red cinnamon candies
- ¼ tsp ground ginger
- Dash of salt
- 3 strips lemon peel cut 1½x¼ inches
Instructions
- Remove blossom end of apples, but do not remove stems or peel.
- In saucepan, combine remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil.
- Prick apples in several places and place stems up in saucepan.
- Return to a boil, reduce heat, cover and cook over low heat 10 minutes. Do not stir.
- Remove from heat. Cool apples completely in syrup.
- Pick up by stems and pack in freezer containers. Strain juice over apples.
- To serve, thaw 1-2 hours before use.
